When you get close, you'll see this:
Come around to the back -- the OutBack R/C! |
On scheduled Sundays racers are invited to bring their electric R/C racing gear (sorry, no nitro-power) to Bob's back yard -- OutBack R/C. Not a business in any way, OutBack R/C is a free-of-charge dirt track.
Please note the new hours: open practice now starts at 9:00 AM, with qualifying races starting at 11:00 AM. It is always wise to bring tables, chairs, and spare parts. There is no on-site hobby shop. We do, however, have electric power and water for the track.
The dirt is a sandy loam. Be prepared to see rooster tails. Bring your step pins, maybe something down to a Pro-line Bow Tie. There is a sturdy 3-foot high driver's stand to hold ten drivers at the same time. There is also an outhouse available.
Outback R/C employs frequency control to eliminate problems with radio hits ruining your race.
We have the iLap scoring system. It operates with all the scoring software you already know -- AlyCat, RC Scoring Pro, etc (we use AlyCat). However, the transponders and sensors are not AmbRC compatible. Instead, the system is based on infrared light and works very well at Outback R/C and many other tracks around the world.
There are ten house transponders, but a few are also available on consignment at the track for $35.00. The transponders may also be ordered from the manufacturer, I-Lap Timing Systems.
The Outback R/C FM Radio announcement system alerts you to moment-by-moment racing positions as well as to general instructions and messages throughout the day. You may sit near enough an FM radio to hear what is happening, but it may be more convenient if you bring your own standard FM headset or bench-top radio. Your automobile radio will work as well. The frequency to tune into on the FM dial will be announced later.
We have chosen this public address method to minimize the ongoing noise that escapes Outback R/C.
The track now runs around 400 feet on the driving line. We are planning more engaging elevation changes and jumps for this new season. Lanes are divided by plastic drainage pipe -- there are relatively few opportunities for breaking parts on the track.
Oh, and watch for new pictures and video coming soon!
The racing classes encouraged at Outback are:
Stay close to ROAR rules.
Stay close to ROAR rules.
Stay close to ROAR rules.
Bring what you have and learn about racing.
Please note that this is a specification class with strictly-enforced rules. Non-conforming Slashes need to be in a different race.
We welcome electric 1/8th scale. Other classes are a possibility, but too much dilution is not encouraged.
Note that the RC Pro NCCS race dates also include regular club racing.

OutBack R/C is free and friendly. Does that mean you should bring along the beer and kick back? No. The focus is on racing, and racers both above and below the drinking age are welcome. We race, have fun, and then get the heck out of Dodge.
